Nice Carnival

We held our third annual neighborhood carnival today.  Tanya tells me the official title is “Earth Friends Carnival”.

Ariel sells tickets.  $3 got you 30 tickets to be used in activities up and down the block.  All together we made $150 for charity.  The Humane Society won the most votes so they are the ones who get the cash.

Grandpa Kim (aka Bam-Bam) came up to man the dart throwing booth.  “Is anybody going to show up?” he asked after we were not overwhelmed when 10AM came around and the carnival started.  But folks started to trickle in and we ended up having a good turnout.  Probably 50 people showed up.

Peter’s cupcake walk was very popular, as was Krista’s penny toss.  Benjamina did tatoos.  Betty had a horseshoe toss.  The Walcotts did their craziest obstacle course yet.  Jeannie handled the snail races.

Tanya had home-made ice cream that blew everyone away.  Once again the kids loved the Toy/Book Swap where they got to trade in one of their old toys for some other kids old toy.

“Nice carnival” one of our guests told Tanya.  It was actually.  It is a sweet little thing to do that brings everybody together in a creative and fun way.  Sure it takes a bit of effort to put together, but it isn’t that much work.  It really is a shame that more folks don’t do this.

My booth was drawing portraits of kids in the manga style.  I was not ready for the long line of kids waiting for me to draw them.   The 4 hours of drawing have left my hand cramped and lifeless.  Previous carnivals only lasted 2 hours, but Ariel demanded that we have a longer carnival this time.

By mid-afternoon every one had gone and we swept up the popped balloons and other carnival debris.

“Hey, people came” Bam-Bam said to Tanya after we called it a day.

  1. I had so much fun! Thanks to you guys, but especially to Tanya, for your hard work in putting this together. It is an amazing event. Maybe more people do it, but we just don’t know because there’s no neighborhood carnival database? We can hope! See you next year!
